Library Public DropBox

Your Brown Mackie Library has its own DropBox. This will be a place where the librarians can place documents for students to access and download. The content of the DropBox will vary. If you need the librarian to make something available to you, please ask and this is where we'll put it so that it is available not just to one student, but to all. Of course, nothing private will be placed here.

Look for the library assignment form here. You can also download the library orientation videos, but to view them on your iPad you must use the links in the Library Orientation section on this page.

Your student portal gives you access to your course information, schedules, grades and financial services information - among other things. New Mexico State Library - El Portal  - IF you are a student at the Brown Mackie College - Albuquerque campus, this link will give you access to resources available only in New Mexico through the state library. El Portal is licensed only for use within the State of New Mexico.

Doing Research & Citing Your Sources APA Style

Use of scholarly sources and APA format citations are THE standard at Brown Mackie College. Here are a few online resources to help you learn how to research and write research papers.

APA Citation Maker : This link is from the Oregon School Library Information System. Best for quickly creating APA citations, but remember you need to learn how the system works, not just to copy. You are always responsible for the work you turn in.

Writing Assistance    This page gives tips on determining the academic quality of a website (whether or not it's OK to use). It also includes hints on APA citations, how to write in an academic manner using good grammar and style, how to avoid plagiarism, and PODCASTS with PowerPoints and PDFs on how to organize your research and your paper. GET TO KNOW THIS SITE!

Basics of APA Style  This link is a tutorial from the American Psychological Association

Purdue OWL: APA Formatting and Style Guide  This link is a tutorial from the Online Writing Lab of Purdue University

If you need assistance with accessing or using the book catalogue or ProQuest, the library now has a DVD with short tutorials, created by your librarian. Ask library staff to check one out!

Library Orientation Videos

Since our school opened, I have been giving students introductions to using the library. For a variety of reasons, the in-class sessions aren't able to meet the needs of every student, nor is there time to delve into the features of the tools I demonstrate. Furthermore, since the time that we opened we have changed both the OPAC (book catalogue) and the journal of databases.

The current OPAC is called Voyager. You'll use it whenever you need to see whether we have a book in the library. You can also use Voyager for looking up videos or printed journals (we only have a few of those). The current database of electronic journals is ProQuest. You'll use this to find scholarly articles on various topics.

These videos are designed to guide students through the process of using Voyager and ProQuest. They mostly cover the same material that is covered in the library orientation session, but unlike the orientation session, a few of these videos cover more advanced features of Voyager and ProQuest, so if you are already used to using these tools, but wish to go a step further, these videos will still also be of use to you. Watch the videos in order. They progress from an overview of the library guides page, through using the book catalogue and ProQuest, to creating citations with APA citation maker.

Although I have tried to keep the videos short, they may take some time to load. Please be patient.

Financial Aid Resources

Sources for financial aid are abundant beyond measure. Some are better than others, some are just plain scams. How do you know the difference? It's not always easy to tell. In the library we have books in the reference section that will help you find scholarships and help you learn how to apply for them. Here we are presenting a short list of resources that Brown Mackie has found to be helpful to students. All links presented on this page were valid as of 3/6/2012.

Please also look at the SCHOLARSHIP AND GRANT INFO tab at the top of the page for additional links and information gathered from other Brown Mackie Campuses.

Clicking on the name will take you directly to the website. Click on the information (i) icon next to the link to see the URL.

Newsletter Readership Survey

Your BMC-Albuquerque Library staff loves to promote reading, but also saving paper, trees, and money. Printing our newsletter in full color costs a lot of extra money, and it is the nature of newsletters that they usually aren't things you keep permanently - except in a library. We started to make In Our Community available online with the last issue and we'll be continuing in the future. We'd like to get an idea of how popular the online edition is, so we are asking readers to take a very brief survey.

Click on the link immediately below or go to the "In Our Community" tab in the menu bar at the top of this page.
