Library Closures the Week of April 23rd
Next week, the week of April 23rd, the librarian will be attending the state library conference, so service may be limited or the library closed on a few days. Here is the schedule for next week: Monday: No Change (10-7) Tuesday: 9 - 4:30 Wednesday: CLOSED Thursday: CLOSED Friday: 1-5 If you need any library or librarian assistance with finals, I highly suggest coming in on Monday or Tuesday morning for assistance. If you need to assess library materials, please seek out the dean for assistance. When the librarian returns, he will be more knowledgeable and better able to assist you!

Happy New Year!
We hope everyone had lovely holidays and an excellent New Year! Next Monday, January 9th, there will be a blood drive here at the college. The LifeSouth bus will be here from 8 AM until 2 PM. Please consider donating blood, if you are able! Additionally, the library is now utilizing electronic circulation! To check out books, please present your student ID and we will scan the book out to you. This does, however, mean that there will now be a fee of $.15 for each day the book is late! We are reconsidering the one week checkout period, however, and may extend the checkout period to two weeks for students. If you have any questions, please inquire with the librarian. As always, if you have any requests or suggestions, please let us know! Thank you all for being great patrons!

New Library Additions
We've recently added several titles, including books on medical ethics, and we've updated our online bibliographies with them. Also, our new magazine subscriptions have started to appear, and more titles should arrive shortly! Come take a look!
Also, the COMPASS placement testing that should have taken place last Saturday will occur this Saturday, December 3rd. Drop in between 9 and 11 AM if you need to test!

Our library online catalog is up and running! Simply click on "Library Catalog" in the menu bar above and you will be taken to the online catalog search. Additionally, we have added several titles regarding dental technology. Check one out!

Our library policies have been approved and are now posted here on this site under the "About the Library" tab. The policies cover collecting materials, challenging materials, circulation policies, acceptable use of technology, and other areas. New Electronic Resources!
We now have access to Credo Reference and the Virtual Training Center! Credo is an excellent resource with a great number of e-Reference books. The Virtual Training Center provides a large selection of software training videos and tutorials. The log-in information for the Virtual Training Center can be found on the splash page of the electronic library resources through your student portal!

Suggestions @ Your Library!
As requested by student representatives, there is now a college suggestion box! The box may be found by the desk in the library. Also, as always, you can send problems or suggestions to our campus president by emailing birminghamcares@brownmackie.edu Additionally, the typing workshop scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at 3 PM is canceled. The workshop will resume next week, and we are adding a computer skills/office software skills workshop on Wednesday afternoons at 3 PM!

Technology Workshops @ Your Library!
Starting this week: technology workshops in the library. Starting this Friday we will initiate weekly typing workshops for any interested student. The typing workshop will occur each week at 3 PM on Friday. Upcoming: basic computer skills and office productivity software skills workshops! I will post the times and dates for these workshops when I develop them.

New Periodicals
We now have the Birmingham News in the library, and we will be getting the Birmingham Times soon. We are also getting several general interest magazines in the next month or so.

Library Closures
The library will be closed on this Friday, June 10th, due to a vacation day, and June 12th and 13th due to the librarian training in Ohio. If you need any library materials or assistance on these days, please inquire with the Dean or one of our instructors.

Research Consultations
Many students have research papers due next week. The librarian is more than happy to sit down with you and provide suggestions regarding starting places and approaches to your research! He is also happy to go over basic proofreading with you. Also remember that you can type a question into the chat box during library hours and the librarian will assist you with your questions!

Information Literacy Instruction
We're gearing up for information literacy instruction here at the library! Starting this term, all Composition classes will have an information literacy component provided by the librarian, and any class that includes a research paper may request a research refresher from the library. If you have any feedback for us after these sessions, please let us know! We strive constantly to improve our service.

Live Chat Reference Service Now Available!
The BMC - Birmingham Library is happy to provide chat reference service to our students! The chat reference service will be available during the library's regular hours. From any room in the building (or from home!) you can message our librarian and he will respond as soon as he is able. If the service is offline, you can always e-mail the librarian at jgilbreath@brownmackie.edu.

Food and Supply Drive
During the week of May 2 through May 5, Brown Mackie College - Birmingham will collect non-perishable food and supplies to support communities hit by the recent historic storms. Supplies may be dropped off in the lobby. On May 6, the College will donate all collected supplies to a local shelter.

Recycling
If you have any scrap paper, plastic bottles, or cans that need to be recycled while you're in the building, feel free to drop them with Mr. Gilbreath at the library. He will take the recycling home and take care of it.
